Introductory OHS Training

Every employer is required to provide training to employees in the area of occupational safety and health before allowing them to work in a given position. This particularly concerns initial training in the field of occupational safety and health.

Such training for employees before being allowed to work is not required only in the case of them taking up work in the same position that they held with the employer directly before entering into another employment contract with that employer.
In addition to fulfilling the statutory obligation, the purpose of such training is to provide the employee with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their duties.
This includes consideration of safety regulations and principles and familiarizing them with the hazards present in specific job positions.

This training is conducted in the form of instruction and includes a general part as well as position-specific instruction directly related to training for work in a given position according to the correct methodology for conducting training.

  1. General initial trainingis conducted by a health and safety employee, a person performing tasks of this service for the employer, or the employer themselves who performs the tasks of this service, or an employee designated by the employer who has the knowledge and skills necessary to properly implement the instruction program and has a current certificate of completion of the required training in the field of occupational safety and health. General instruction aims to familiarize the employee with the basic regulations regarding occupational safety and health contained in the Labor Code, executive regulations, and internal regulations, principles of providing first aid, and fire protection rules in the workplace.
  2. Position-specific initial training is conducted by a designated person supervising employees or by the employer, who has appropriate knowledge and current health and safety training in the methods of conducting position-specific instruction.

Of course, this training ends with a test of knowledge and skills regarding the performance of work.

The duration of position-specific training depends on the specifics of the duties performed, but it cannot be shorter than the number of hours specified in the regulation of the Minister of Economy and Labor of July 27, 2004, concerning training in the field of occupational safety and health.
